OUR MISSION

OUR MISSION

Team KYvO’s mission is to prevent suicide contemplation by focusing on life and helping make the choice to live the easier and better option.

At the heart of KYvO is a simple belief:

People need reasons to stay

connected to life.

We believe suicide prevention can begin before a person reaches a crisis. By helping people build resilience, connection, understanding, skills, hope, and a life they have reasons to stay connected to, we can create more opportunities to Dream to Live.

THE INITIATIVES OF Team KYvO

Team KYvO is working toward changing its status from a community organization into a nonprofit organization.

AS A NONPROFIT, Team KYvO WILL:

  • Advocate for a change in the focus of suicide prevention toward preventing suicide contemplation.

  • Work with other organizations to promote the prevention of suicide contemplation while recognizing that current suicide-prevention practices remain essential supportive measures for individuals experiencing suicidal thoughts.

  • Extend the preventive measures developed by KYvO and other like-minded programs so that choosing to live becomes the easier and and better option.

  • Tailor prevention to meet individual needs.

ADDITIONALLY, Team KYvO WILL PROVIDE FUNDING AND MANPOWER TO RESEARCH:

  • Measures that promote good mental health and measures that may help prevent mental illness.

  • Measures for individuals living with mental illness that may help reduce episodic breaks in mental health caused by their illness.

  • The relationship between ADHD and suicide.

Team KYvO WILL ADVOCATE TO:

  • Fundamentally change the mental-health industry from a reactive, treatment-focused model toward proactive preventive care.

  • Advocate for health-insurance coverage of twice-yearly mental-health checkups.

  • Change hearts and minds by helping people understand the difference between mental health—the state of a person’s mental well-being; mental illness—a diagnosable mental, behavioral, or emotional disorder; and a temporary decline or disruption in mental health that may occur without a diagnosed mental illness. By understanding these distinctions, people may be more likely to recognize changes in their mental health and the importance of seeking support and maintaining regular mental-health care.

  • Eliminate the stigma surrounding mental-health care and mental illness through public-service announcements and other educational efforts.

  • Raise awareness of the relationship between ADHD and suicide and the associated risks, particularly within healthcare and the mental-health professions.

Team KYvO WILL COMPLETE THE RESEARCH, DEVELOPMENT, AND AFFORDABLE AVAILABILITY OF:

  • Coping on Campus

  • Your Corner — a tailored program designed to meet the needs of various walks of life.

LASTLY, Team KYvO WILL:

  • Update all programs as research and evidence dictate.

  • Plan, implement, and promote fundraising programs to support these initiatives.

  • Research appropriate grant opportunities and develop proposals to secure funding.

  • Maintain and update KYvO’s social media platforms and websites.

  • Develop programming that allows for the creation and support of localized chapters across the nation.

  •  Remain true to KYvO’s principles so they are not changed by corporate involvement or by becoming a national charity.

OUR GRASSROOTS COMMITMENT

It is imperative that KYvO remain a grassroots movement of individuals and like-minded nonprofit organizations working together to help people recognize that everyone has a role and responsibility in preventing suicide contemplation—in themselves and in each other.
